I began my journey with Feed Scarborough as a volunteer, helping out at special events and quickly becoming a regular. As a new immigrant and a single mom, this role allowed me to connect with others, contribute to my community, and find a sense of purpose. My passion for helping others led to a permanent position as the Healthy Meals Coordinator, where I managed the warehouse, coordinated food deliveries to food banks, and supported our volunteers. During my time in this role, we successfully increased meal distribution from 400 to over 1200 meals a week.
As my role evolved, I transitioned into managing the food bank, where I continue to make a direct impact. Volunteers are the backbone of our organization, and I truly enjoy working closely with them. I also collaborate with corporate volunteers, sharing the heartfelt stories of our organization and highlighting the difference we’re making in the lives of our clients. Supporting volunteers and knowing our work brings hope and support to those in need is the most rewarding part of my job.
